Senator gives N70m to students

The senator representing Cross River central senatorial district, Senator John Owan-Enoh, has distributed N70 million free grants to students.

He said the grant was to assist students roaming the streets because of inability of their parents and guardians to afford their school fees and other charges.

Launching his comprehensive education support programme at Ikom in central senatorial district of the state, he said he was concerned about how young and intelligent Nigerian children are denied education.

Owan-Enoh, who released a whooping N70m to 4,020 postgraduates, undergraduates and secondary school students in his constituency, said he will continue with the exercise regularly.

Beneficiaries of the educational supports were 60 postgraduate students who were each given N100, 000 and 660 undergraduate students who also received N50, 000 each.

The chairman of Senate committee on finance and appropriation recalled the case of a 21-year-old girl who had to drop out of school and was hawking vegetable to support her younger brother in school.
